Workshop FAQs

  • We recommend starting with the “take it for a spin” classes. You won't walk away with your new favorite coffee mug… but you will get a feel for the wheel and see if taking a series of classes is something you want to do!

Like most things, it takes practice! Throwing large vessels and perfect mugs, takes hours of practice and a lot of muscle memory! Don’t get discouraged when you flop on your first try. Have fun and stick with it!

  • While we love the wheel and think you will too… our handbuilding and glaze experiences allow you to stretch your creative muscles, while giving you something functional to walk away with (after firing it at 2000 degress of course).

We think this is a great option if you are looking to have a relaxing evening with friends looking to catch up and sip on a beverage with!

  • While we are sure your child could outperform you any day on the art front, we do ask that you respect our policy for participants to be 18+.

We find that our experiences are a retreat to stretch the creative muscles that have been collecting dust since middle school art class. We appreciate your understanding and are happy to recommend studios that offer youth and young adult classes.

  • We provide all the materials and tools you will need to create your masterpiece! Our clay will wash out of most clothing but we recommend you don’t wear your favorite shirt and shoes, you will get dirty. If you are attending a glaze experience, some of our glazes will stain.

It may sound odd, but we also recommend not coming with a fresh manicure. Your hands will be your primary tool. Long fingernails tend to get in the way.

  • Our space was designed to support small groups. Our wheel studio can accommodate 8. Our handbuilding and glaze space can accommodate 8-12 individuals at a time.

You can inquire about a private event on our workshop page.

  • At this time, we do not. We encourage you to join in on one of the “take it for a spin” or series classes.

Shop and Commission FAQ

  • Our shop features work by Sarah Richard, who works under the name, Gem City Ceramics. She is also the “owner gal” of MADE so she may show you the ropes if you sign up for a workshop!

  • Our shop hours are Thursday 4:30-7:30 pm; Saturday 10-4 pm, and Sunday 10-1 pm. Contact us if interested in shopping by appointment.

  • If you have an idea for a specific piece, I would love to hear about it. If interested in dinnerware, please review my dinnerware collection available under the dinnerware tab.

Commissions take at minimum 2 months to fulfill, please be patient and enjoy the process of having something unique made entirely for you!

  • It is HIGHLY encouraged if you wish to acquire a full dish set that you order all of the pieces at once. This will ensure the pieces are thrown the same size relative to one another and their pairings.

  • The short answer is yes, but… similar to mass-produced pottery the microwave will make your wares hot and the dishwasher will ware them faster. I use all commercial glazes and fire to their specifications. That said, if you begin to notice markings or a change of surface texture, switch to hand washing.

Workshop Policies

Workshop Agreement

Pottery can be finicky. There are so many steps to the process and inevitably, pieces experience some bumps and bruises along the way. MADE is not responsible for small imperfections that occur during handling. We believe that in addition to your masterpiece, your registration fee includes the memories made! With this said, if pieces break completely, attendees may register for an additional workshop at 50% off. The definition of breakage is subject to interpretation by MADE by LLC.

Cancelation

Please note that once you have booked a spot in a workshop with us it means that we have reserved a seat exclusively for you. If you cancel your registration without adequate notice, we won't be able to allow someone else to join in on the fun! We get it, life happens. If you do have to cancel your registration for a one-off workshop please be sure to give a 72-hour notice for a full refund. If you need to cancel your registration for a series workshop (wheel 101) please be sure to give us a 5-day notice for a full refund.

Catch a cold? Last minute work crisis? A 24-hour notice is subject to a credit to attend a future workshop of equal cost. No show? Well, that would be rude. We purchase and prep materials specifically for each attendee. Unfortunately, no refunds will be rewarded for any no-shows or notices less than 24 hours before the start of the workshop. Please contact info@madedayton.com if you need to cancel.

Completed Workshop Work

All completed work MUST be picked up within 5 weeks of notice of completion. In order to leave room for ongoing work, MADE by LLC is subject to discard work if not picked up within this timeframe. Plus, don’t you want to enjoy your masterpiece?

Photos

We turn into proud parents when you come to create with us; therefore we take a lot of photos… If you wish to not have your photo taken please contact MADE at info@madedayton.com. Unless otherwise noted, MADE has the right to use photos on their respective social media platforms, websites, and promotional materials.
